RideIndex is a planning tool. The information it shows — routes, wind forecasts, training metrics, imported activity data — is meant to help you make decisions, not to make decisions for you. You are responsible for your own safety while riding.
Routes are suggestions
- Routes shown in RideIndex are suggestions. You are responsible for evaluating any route for safety, traffic, surface conditions, and your own ability before riding it.
- Auto-routed paths may include roads with heavy traffic, no shoulder, gravel surfaces, closed bridges, or other hazards that the routing data doesn't capture. Review every route before you ride it.
- Always obey local traffic laws and use appropriate safety equipment — helmet, lights, and visibility gear.
Off-road and trail riding
- Trail difficulty colors come from community-tagged map data and may be missing or wrong. Ride within your ability and don't rely on the rating alone.
- Trail conditions in RideIndex are a weather-based estimate, not a live open/closed status. Trails may be closed, off-limits, or unrideable regardless — check local trail status before you go.
- Observe one-way and directional trails. Riding against the flow or against downhill traffic risks collisions.
Weather and wind are predictions
- Wind and weather forecasts are predictions, not guarantees. Conditions can change quickly, especially in mountains, near coasts, and during storm systems.
- Verify current conditions before you start a ride and remain alert to changes during the ride.
Training metrics are informational
- FTP, Training Load, Intensity, peak power, time-in-zone, climb scores, and other training metrics in RideIndex are informational only. They are not medical or training advice.
- Consult a doctor or qualified coach before changing your training based on these numbers, particularly if you have any health conditions.
Imported data is shown as-is
- Activity and route data imported from third parties — Ride with GPS, Strava, Wahoo, FIT/GPX file uploads — is displayed as-is. RideIndex does not validate the accuracy of imported data.
Map and routing data comes from third parties
- Routing, maps, elevation, and positioning rely on data from OpenStreetMap and its contributors, third-party tile providers, and GPS. That data may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong.
- Roads, trails, and paths shown may not exist, may be closed or private, and may not be legal or appropriate for cycling. Distances, gradients, and surface types may be inaccurate. RideIndex does not verify third-party data.
Group rides
RideIndex is not an organizer of any ride. If you share a route or plan with a group, RideIndex is not responsible for that ride, for how it is led, or for the conduct of anyone on it.
Use at your own risk
RideIndex is provided as-is, with no warranty of fitness for any particular purpose. Cycling carries inherent risks. By using RideIndex, you accept those risks and take responsibility for your own decisions on the road.
This Safety Notice is incorporated into the Terms of Service. Section 30 of the Terms contains an assumption of risk and a release of liability for bodily injury — please read it.
